Few salient features of OIS and its Academic Program

Wide Subject choice for ICSE Class 9 and 10

Some children are required to struggle beyond reasonable limits to understand and perform to the minimum acceptable levels in subjects like Mathematics and Sciences.

The council for ICSE (as well as other progressive educational frameworks) provides such children with the possibility of taking up subjects which are learnt more easily or more naturally by them.

One distinct possibility is for children to drop Mathematics and Science in Class 9 and 10 after the ability and aptitude are assessed carefully.

A close and sensitive view needs to be taken by the school, teachers and parents together so that children receive appropriate guidance because science and mathematics are basic subjects for developing an understanding of many other subjects in later life.

Wide Subject choice for ISC Class 11 and 12

Our Indian School Certificate (ISC) program is designed carefully so that the aspiring adolescents have an interesting learning experience while they are in Class 11 and 12.

This is the age group where many children look forward to freedom of a sufficiently higher degree and feel that they deserve the same in all respects! Ironically, but expectedly, children of this age group would also like an adult they trust to be available round the corner always!! Keeping this paradoxical requirement in mind we carefully draw out a program for these little adults with a significantly wider range of subject choice.

The children with different inclinations have scope for learning and studying as per their interests and long term aspirations. We also attempt to enable the children to develop “muscles of iron and nerves of steel!” We try to develop in children the values, attitude, life competencies, skills and concepts that would help them to take up higher studies or responsibilities with élan and joy.

Child-Centric Vertical Grouping of Students for
English, Hindi and
Mathematics from Class 1 To 8

We have students from different academic/curricular backgrounds in our school. The students from the vernacular backgrounds obviously will be required to learn English language from basics.

We provide child centered academic inputs based on the identified levels of the students and depending on the grasp of the children by grouping them into vertical levels based in their academic levels of understanding (and not based their present class.) This approach is a challenge for a school and the teachers because we will have to work very closely with each child keeping his or her level in mind.

It is extremely efficacious to the students because learning difficulties were diagnosed and it was addressed through activity based teaching, simplified worksheets and by giving special attention to the children. Each class consisted of less than 18 students so that each child could be attended individually by the teacher. The challenge remains to enable the child to join the mainstream as quickly as possible.
