Philosophy of Teaching - Learning Processes

We are committed to make the life of children in all domains of our school deep learning experiences. Accordingly, we move away from the traditional, rote learning mechanism which relies heavily on tests and evaluation for making children “study.”

Instead, we have been working towards making our classroom teaching-learning mechanisms more and more interesting and gripping so that children develop intrinsic interest in the subject matter, which in turn leads them to “study.”

During the academic year 2009-2010 the school will be moving more purposefully towards implementing more and more interesting processes. Some of the general characteristics of the progressive system of education we will be attempting at Orchid International School will be as follows:

1 Experience based learning or experiential learning

2 Discovery oriented learning

3 Joy and fun based learning

4 Activity oriented learning

5 Hands on learning

This approach requires a subtle, dynamic and sensitive attitude on the part of the teacher. It also involves a lot of preparatory work to be done by the teachers prior to meeting the students in the classroom. Many of our faculty members have exposure to this educational approach and the others have been involved in explorations of this kind.

Design and implementation of teaching-learning approaches with an integrated curriculum in mind will be one of the key features of the junior school. The children with vernacular backgrounds will be supported and guided as per their present levels so that they can reach the mainstream level within a reasonable period of time.

The homework and supervised study time will be guided by the subject teacher so that subject doubts can be clarified. This also ensures that the students learn to plan their studies in a manner that they take up the subject homework when the respective teacher is available.
