Mathematics From Class 1 To 8

The Parents of Children from Classes 1 to 6

Dear and Respected Parents/Guardians,

Sub: CHILD-CENTRIC EDUCATION: Vertical Grouping of students for subjects.

As you are aware we have students from different academic/curricular backgrounds in our school. The students from the vernacular backgrounds obviously will be required to learn English language from basics. Our school has been having the MMSS(Marathi Medium Subject Support) classes for such students. We observe that the program has not yet served its purpose fully. Hence, we are refining the program further to make it more efficacious and the same is elicited below.

We have identified the academic competence/concept/skill level of each child with reference to English, Mathematics and Hindi.

  • Based on the identified levels of the students of Classes 1 to 3 the children will be regrouped into three subject levels in the case of English and Mathematics. Similarly, children of Classes 4 to 6 will be regrouped into four subject levels. Classes will be conducted based on the competence level in a closely child centered grouping so that they learn better. This approach will be much more effective and useful than repeating the Class 6 syllabus to a child as part of remedial classes of Class 6.
  • Depending on the grasp of the children and involvement, application and hard work the children of the higher classes will be enabled to cover the content of the previous levels quicker so that he or she moves to the higher level. Our intent and objective will be to match the subject level and class level of all the children before he or she reaches Class 9 or 10 depending on in which class the child had joined the school.

  • In the area of Hindi we will be regrouping the Classes 1 and 2; 3 and 4; 5 and 6 into two subject based groups. Classes 7 and 8 will be grouped into three subject levels.

This approach is a challenge for a school and the teachers because we will have to work very closely with each child keeping his or her level in mind. It is extremely beneficial to the students and thereby the parents.

In case you are unclear/uncertain about the concept outlined above please seek clarification during the next parent-teacher meeting.

We look forward to your continued understanding and cooperation so that we can together educate our children better.

With warmest regards and good wishes,

(Sundar Gandikota)
Principal
